Ricky's back?!

Ricky Williams will get his shot at the NFL again! Surely you must be joking!

OK, OK, sure, I'm an OU man. But let's look at the facts. He's a self-proclaimed pothead and has shown nothing but inconsistency in character since his first suspension due to violation of the NFL's substance abuse policy. In addition, he's 30 years old now. Great, bringing back an old running back is the answer.

Maybe the Miami Dolphins would not have brought Ricky back had Ronnie Brown not gone down this year. But this team is going nowhere this year and Brown will be back next season. The season Brown was having until his knee injury showed he's definitely a feature back.

Ricky's best years are far behind him. I do recognize that being out of football saves his body from some wear and tear, but how much production are the Dolphins expecting out of him?

Probably not too much. That's the point though. If he won't be your feature back, there's no need to take the risk. I'm all for giving guys a second or even third chance if they work to earn trust back, but Ricky has not earned the trust back. He went to the CFL to repay his dues. More power to him. That was fine with me. Different market, different league, good for him for taking steps to get back in the game. But he got kicked out of that league too!

He was a great college back. He had an outstanding start to his pro career. However, as a person, Ricky Williams' pattern of behavior clearly lacks the consistency, committment and dedication to be an NFL football player. Dumb move on the Dolphins' part.
