It was a Dream

It was a dream, a dream of dreams
A dream of perfected pipes
Organs abound lined the reams

There were friends and joy
Money was no object of need
The perfect flow we enjoy

The home was small and full
The grass was always cut plush
A dog snored on the porch without control

Music filled the air with strings
We danced until dawn broke
Then we arise when the robin sings

Our work was never labor
It was perfectly our choice
Every moment we savor

Just as it hit a climax
The image disappears in the dark
As if we had slipped on a patch of wax

The dream shifts into a void
The heart clutches at its ash
Sense of loss it seeks to avoid

Terror grips the mind’s eye
The seas fill with red sand
The flow of tears wallow in lie

The truth of perfection has escaped us
Cold sweat of panic saturates the shirt
Time again to write a new corpus

The hammer appears above in the sky
Slowly it drops through the thick clouds
Silence envelops the parted lips’ sigh

The nail placed upright to drive
As the moment to strike draws near
Now is the time to feel alive

Groggily awoke from the slumber’s dream
Years passed over the long night
Along the forehead, a new seam
