Let Steroid Segui Sleep

Now David Segui's been busted. The wave of steroid users continues to roar. I doubt the accusations will ever end. Players using from the era will constantly be discovered and will admit. There used to be a steroid story. Now it's a subject all unto its own. The topic will never be closed.

Segui has refused to even speak to the investigation committee about his use despite his full acknowledgement of his wrongdoing. Not because he's afraid for himself, but because he is afraid it will force him to call out other players. OK, fine, whatever. I would like to put up a fight and say he should talk because it's the right thing to do. But this subject has been exhausted.

I say wipe all the records clean from entire steroids era and just be done with it. No matter how much evidence is accumulated, nothing will ever be proven in order to take action that will make difference. We'd like to put an asteric next to the dead ball or live ball eras or whatever, but that's not going to happen. Ty Cobb wore sharpened spikes and used them as a weapon. Cheating's gone one plenty.

The MLB ought to use all the evidence it has now (because it's not going to get any better to make a difference) and set official dates on the beginning and end of the steroids era. Then let the issue die. Let fans and media talk about it they want to, but it does the MLB no damn good to worry about it any more. Concentrate on cleaning up the current game and put the past behind us all.
