I'm a big animal lover. Before you jumpt to conclusions...they don't get my Bud Light. Dogs have always been in my family, so much so that they have become part of the family. They are like another sibling. Now that I'm a little older, they are like a child.
The Michael Vick saga sickens me because of this. I understand animal fighting as a sport. People have it, it was called boxing. Now it's evolved into the UFC. But people have choices. They choose to become fighters. Cock-fighting is OK with me because of the manner that chickens have been bred for centuries. They are food and food-producers, plain and simple. Cock-fighing gives them a higher purpose in life.
But dog-fighting?! No. They have been bred to be companions. They can be very loving and devoted given the proper attention. They have a natural disposition to please their owners. Pitbulls can be considered aggressive animals, but they will be friendly given the proper care.
Vick began serving jail time before his court date yesterday, Nov. 19. This tells me he expects a guilty verdict and that he knows he did wrong. He should have had the moral compass not to organize dog-fighting in the first place!
Now Vick's going to have to foot a $900,000 vet bill, mostly to humanly kill these dogs found on his Virginia propery. This is what it has devolved to, putting down animals due to the lack of common sense on an individual's part. And not just any individual: a multi-million dollar, highly popular, going to work at his dream job, idolized NFL quarterback. With so much as his feet, Vick decided to destroy something precious. Just digusting.
